About

Jung Sun Kim works as a choreographer, dancer, performer and mentor in South Korea and Germany. She was born in Seoul, Korea and since 2007 lives in Berlin. Her works in different contexts such as theater/stage, education and in independent art projects and with artists of other disciplines (theater, opera, visual arts, performance, music). In doing so, she crosses the boundaries between the genres and always lets the participants take part in the processes, in order to discover new ways of art production. She searches for authentic movements, which are created through the interaction between the physicality of bodies and their perception. Through encounters with other bodies and their stories, she also constantly reflects on her own perspective. A current research focus of hers is the body as an individual and mass between Korean group movements and group movement in the DDR. Her final project “Ex-ist” for the master in choreography at the HZT Berlin she worked out by a three-month research workshop with about 30 people, consisting of amateur and professional dancers. She studied Korean traditional dance at Ehwa Womans University in Seoul and choreography at the Korean National University of Arts. In 2016, she completed a master’s degree in choreography at HZT Berlin. As a dancer, she has performed with Daegu City Dance Company, Eun Me Ahn Company in Korea and with Canan Erek in Berlin. She has also collaborated with Matthias Erian (Korean National Contemporary Dance Company), Jaelee Kim (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts, Seoul Korea), äöü (Zimmertheater Tübingen, LTT Tübingen, ehrenfeldstudios Cologne), Oper Dynamo West / Janina Janke (Berlin) and Clara Gervais (Dautenheim,Berlin).
